Just how do you pray? Or how do you love God? Sometimes it can feel like there is a right and wrong way to do these things. And if you have felt that way, then you were right. There is a wrong and right way to pray and love God. The mistake a lot of people make about praying is that it should be a big deal. Like for example, some people set asside one hour a day to pray. And some people feel Church is the place to pray and talk to God. And some people feel that the only time to pray is when they need something or need help or some people pray just before every meal.
The problem with all of the above situations, is that the person fails to realize that God has a personality just like you do. Yes, he is GOD. And yes, he is much higher than you, but he also has all of the characteristics you have. Meaning, that he is not just God, but your friend. God doesn't want you to set asside an hour or a half an hour a day for you to talk to him. And he doesn't want to only hear from you before every meal, when you have a problem, or when you're at church. Like a good buddy of yours, he wants to talk to you throughout your day and throughout your daily activities.
And while you're praying he doesn't want you to use a smart speach, or long drawn out half an hour borefests a day. He wants you to talk to him as a friend, as a parent, anywhere, anytime. Whether it be sitting on the toilet, driving to school or work, on an empty elevator, or just walking down the street...
Remember that God knows what you will say before you say it. So how you say it doesn't matter. He doesn't care how well you speak, or how many big words you use, or how long the prayer is. All he cares about, is that you talk to him and just say what you want to say. That's it. Even if it's anger towards God. He wants you to express it. God loves it when you speak your mind to him.
And how do you love God? By saying "I love you."? Telling God "I love you." is good, and he likes it, but it also isn't enough. If you want to tell God you love him, and you want to show it, then you should know that the only way to do that is to do what he asks you to do. Just like any husband that loves his wife will do anything for her to show his love for her, you have to do what God asks of you to show you love him. EVEN if it means being loving and caring to someone you don't like, or doing something you just don't feel like doing. By you doing it, you show your love for God, and God see's it.
Remember that God does not miss ANY good thing you do. Even when other people don't appreciate it, or thank you for doing something out of love, remember that God always sees it.
We all have to work on doing things we don't like to do for God. Whether it be putting on smiles we don't want to make, or being patient when we don't want to have patience, or putting someone in front of you when you don't want to be last.
